New academic year for the 2nd-course International MBA students’ begun with "International Business Environment" course. This course was held by Paul Marer, Ph.D. at the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania, visiting professor at the International Institute of Business.

The course discusses globalization, its drivers and impacts, the types of opportunities and challenges globalization is creating for businesses, who gains and loses during the process. Participants have explored how political, legal and economic systems and business cultures differ and their implications for cross-border business, especially foreign investment.

 

On September 12th, 2008 Kateryna Velychko, CIPR Programs manager at the International Institute of Business, took part in the roundtable discussion "Interactive resources of the high-quality administrative education", which was held in the frameworks of the 15th National Book exhibition fair "Publishers’ forum" in Lviv.

 

On the 19th of July the 6th graduation of the Executive MBA Program of International Institute of Business took its place. IIB’s President Alexander Mertens opened the ceremony with congratulation of graduates on successful defence of graduation projects and passing of important life period. Because MBA degree is not only an acquiring of new and systematization of existing knowledge, but in the first place it is a special mode of thought clearing the way to the professional self-development of a manager and contributing to a company’s expansion. Mr Mertens wished that every graduate would never stop at what has been accomplished and would seek conquering of new heights in business.

 

On June 26 – 27, the First management education forum, CEEMAN Executive Education Forum: Changing Competition in Executive Education took its place in Moscow; Central and Eastern Europe Management Development Association (CEEMAN) jointly with Russia Association Business Education (RABE) organized it.

More than 50 participants from 18 countries of the world took part in the forum. Alyona Antonenko, IIB Corporate Partnership Development Director and Alena Shevchuk, Head of IIB Marketing Department represented our business school at the forum.

The main trends in business education area were discussed at the forum and trends of MBA programs in particular, peculiarities of Eastern European countries market. Thus, Boris Scherbakov, Vice-President Oracle Corporation, Director General Oracle-CIS, Russia, noted that correlation of business schools in Russia and USA constitutes 1 to 10 and shows us market unsaturation and possibilities for players to take their perspective niche.

 

From June 6 to 28, the International Institute of Business conducts the corporative program for employees of the Innovative Marketing Ukraine Company on the subject of "Project management".

Ludmila Batenko, the director of the IIB Productivity Centre discloses main stages of project management, design works structure and project risks management methods in the network of the program.

The program participants examine various aspects of project documentation developing in practice, organizational frameworks arrangement, responsibility matrix, project communication plans and other urgent issues of project management.

 

From June 18 to 21 David McLeod, the Director International Education and Juriy Konkin, the Head of cooperation projects in Eastern Europe from Grant MacEwan College (Canada) arrived to the International Institute of Business for a working visit to discuss issues of further cooperation of two business schools.

On the 19 of June David McLeod met with students and graduates under IIB Canadian Degree Management Program that had been arranged jointly with Grant MacEwan College. Mister McLeod spoke about opportunities occurring for the program graduates.

 

On June 19 the Chief Executive Officer of the Astelit Ltd telecommunication company (the life:) trademark) Tansu Yegen had visited the International Institute of Business and shared his secrets of success achievement with first year students of the International MBA.

Mister Yegen have managed to raise life:) in one of the three leading mobile operators in Ukraine and to obtain rank of the most successive and fast growing company of the telecommunication market in the world.

 

On May 28th-30th Alexander Mertens, the President of International Institute of Business, took part in the International Dean’s and Director’s Conference in Lissabon, which was organised by Association of MBAs.

During sessions there were considered different aspects of business school effective management, curriculum and tutorship methodology in the conditions of internationalisation. The participants also discussed the strategic issues and future trends of new markets development, got acquainted with researches in the field of the world MBA education tendencies, which were presented by Rachael Edgington, GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) Marketing and Analytical Department.

 

Last week the guest session of first year students of Executive MBA program took its place in Turkey. It is not the first time when guest sessions are conducted on our listeners’ initiative, but for this time the level was raised and the first trip beyond Ukrainian borders was arranged. All the participants were unanimous in their opinion that such trip is not only a unique possibility to consolidate knowledge and communication outside auditoriums, but also a chance simply to have rest after workday life in cosy hotel not far from the most popular Turkish health resort – the city of Kemer.

 

Traditionally, the students of Executive MBA IIB undergo study course in one of the western business schools at the end of the second year of education. In May 2008, the group of second year students of the EMBA program was on the study course in Switzerland.

The study course program provided learning of three courses at student’s option, namely courses of "International Financial Management", "Venture capital" and "Investments" in the Swiss School of Business and visits to several major international companies.

During 2 weeks, the participants of the program were getting acquainted themselves with mechanisms of financial institutes operation in one of the major financial centers of the world, not only in theory but also practically.
