On July, 8 – 12 the International MBA regular educational module took place during which students studied the course "Building the trust in Cross-Cultural Communications". The distinguish feature of the module was the first time when the students of IIB International MBA program and 7 students of MBA program from the University Alaska SouthEast, USA gathered in one classroom room to study " cross-cultural communications". The idea to bring together MBA students from Ukraine and USA belongs to Dr. Yulia Ivanova, Associate Professor of Management School of the University Alaska SouthEast.

Julia whose roots in Belarus authored the course for students and excellently fulfilled the mission of a course moderator and instructor in auditorium consisting of representatives of several countries – Ukraine, USA, Latvia, Moldova, Brazil, and Russia. Close communication during the module, discussions in the class, work in groups and preparation of group presentations, projects, informal communication during barbeque party, coffee brakes etc. gave an opportunity to understand each other better, feel differences and similarities, learn how to develop business relations with representatives of different countries and cultures.

Sergey Andriychuk: "One of the most important factors why IIB International MBA is attractive is that it gives students both modern theoretical knowledge and practical skills of work in international environment. Last examinations devoted to the subject Building the trust in cross-cultural communications, was a vivid and memorizing step towards that direction.

The joint work of students from USA and IIB IMBA group (which is quiet divertive itself consisting from student from Ukraine, Moldova, Latvia and even Brazil) revealed a lot of differences between business cultures in our countries starting with minor nuances to serious contradictions in running business approaches, ethic standards and people psychology. Excellent composition of cases (on which we worked for 70-80% of the time) based on real business situations made examinations very interesting and practical stimulating thinking and sharing experience with students. Nevertheless, the most important result of work of mixed groups is an opportunity to practice the skills of effective cooperation and solving disagreements between representatives of different cultures which will become the base of our further work in international environment.

And, of course, it was fun!"

Roman Ignatenko: "In modern fast changing world where the process of globalization became a standard, the role of cross cultural relations becomes essential towards highly effective international business. During the last examinations I assured that cultural peculiarities and traditions of business partners can’t be ignored in the process of running international business or holding negotiations. We had a remarkable opportunity to challenge the students from the University Alaska Southeast in a role game simulating situation on fulfilling one of business opportunities in our country cooperating with representatives from another business culture. It is difficult to say that one of the parties won the battle, it would be better to say that everyone who took part in it and who was present acquired priceless practical experience how to take to the account cross cultural peculiarities and to form relations according to WIN-WIN. Composition of the course is consequent; it covers all the main stages of cross cultural relations analysis such as: peculiarities of business environment in one or another country, culture and how to define its` peculiarities, company and peculiarities having expats in management team etc. The students from the University Alaska Southeast made a significant contribution changing experience and showed themselves from the best side participating actively in group tasks and collective discussions.
